Leio De Souza

Leio (Qupeleio) De Souza

Together with his wife Jen, Leio is co-founder and principal tour leader of India Nature.  He is also a founding partner of Backwoods Camp in the Bhagwan Mahaveer Wildlife Sanctuary of his home state Goa, one of India's first birding lodges.  Leio is widely acknowledged as among the best bird tour leaders in India, with almost twenty years experience in guiding for individuals, groups and renowned international tour companies.  Leio's extensive knowledge of the avifauna of the Indian region and infectious enthusiasm for the natural world (plus a growing obsession with photographing it!) combine with an easy rapport with local guides and service providers, natural leadership qualities, and ever-present sense of humour to ensure rewarding, enjoyable tours.

Jennifer De Souza

Originally from southeast England, Jen has been immersed in the birding world from a very young age, growing up in a family of birders.  After graduating with a BSc (Hons) in Natural Sciences from Durham University Jen moved to Goa in 2004, and since making India her home has travelled widely throughout the region, developing an extensive knowledge of its avifauna, the butterflies of the southern peninsula, as well as th complexities of bird tour logistics in this part of the world!  Jen handles all day to day operation and is likely to be your main contact at India Nature, though taking every opportunity to co-lead tours whenever possible.  As a keen wildlife photographer she is currently compiling a database of images of the butterflies of Goa and southern India.

Lokesh Kumar

Lokesh is from Bharatpur, Rajasthan, and having been surrounded by birds and birding from a young age he has developed his birding knowledge, leadership qualities and self-taught English language skills to become one of the most experienced bird guides in northern India today.  Lokesh is an excellent field birder with an innate ability to find skulkers and scarcities, while his enthusiasm and friendly personality make him an excellent on-tour companion.

Lakpa is from the Himalayan state of Sikkim where he began his career as a trekking guide; his considerable experience in leading foreign groups is evident in his professionalism as a tour guide, while his mountaineering experience is invaluable when ascending to high altitude passes.  Having grown-up in a wildlife-rich region he has always held an interest in birds and through his extensive travel throughout the Eastern Himalaya he has broadened his birding knowledge, which together with his dedication and friendly nature make him one of the foremost bird tour guides in NE India.

Sudeesh Thattekkadu

Sudeesh is one of south India's leading bird guides, having developed his interest and skills at his local patch Thattekkad (Salim Ali) Bird Sanctuary in Kerala.  He has an extensive knowledge of the birds of the Western Ghats, and is especially skilled at locating his region's endemic birds and Thattekad's many enigmatic nocturnal species.  His knowledge and enthusiasm make Sudeesh an exceptional tour guide in south India.
